After Forever is the story of Brian and Jason, a 50-ish New York City gay couple, who have it all until they don't.
In a tragic, life imitating art scenario, this documentary-style special was the final script of the late, award-winning writer/producer Michael Slade who succumbed to cancer just days before its release. The story centers around Riley who, while attending school remotely due to COVID-19, is tasked with creating a project about the most unforgettable person he's ever met.
It's Brian (Kevin Spirtas) and Jason's (Mitchell Anderson) 15th anniversary. We meet "the gang" and a secret is revealed.
When Brian takes Peter and Mark's 8-year old son, Riley bicycle riding, painful memories are stirred up. Colleen Zenk (As the World Turns) guest stars.
The gang goes to hear Lisa (Tony-winner, Cady Huffman) sing at a cabaret, but Brian has trouble dealing with it.
Brian and his "work-wife," Brenda, consider bringing Daniel (Michael Urie) into their group. After Brenda pushes Brian to "get out there," he runs into Ron.
Brian tries to explain Ron to Peter and Mark.

Jason's parents (Anita Gillette and Lenny Wolpe) come to town.
Brian gets an anxiety-producing phone call, and faces his future.
Season Two of After Forever picks up 6 months after the end of Season One. Brian has a new relationship and a new job, but Jason is still very present in his life. The 8-episode season continues his and his friends' journey of love, loss and moving on.
Six months after Season 1 ended, Brian (Emmy-winner, Kevin Spirtas) has a new job and a boyfriend, David (Mike McGowan). But he has not let go of the memory of Jason (Mitchell Anderson).
Jason's parents (Anita Gillette and Lenny Wolpe) visit Brian and have some concerns about his new relationship.
Brian loses his new boutique agency's biggest client. Brenda (Emmy-winner, Erin Cherry) works hard to keep Brian from losing it.
Brian's kite-flying afternoon with Mark and Peter's son, Riley, brings up the issue of mothers, which leads Brian to remember his complicated relationship with his own (Mary Beth Peil).
Brian and David go to Lisa's (Tony-winner, Cady Huffman) opening night at Don't Tell Mama. But Lisa is having a hard time accepting Brian's new relationship.
At dinner with two of David's friends, Brian and David wind up in a fight that threatens their relationship.
Secrets are revealed and life becomes complicated when Jason's former client and mentee wants to hire Brian to do the PR for his new book; a memoir about his working relationship with Jason.
David is frustrated by Brian's inability to let go of Jason. Brian is forced to make a big decision.
The third and Final Season, picks up one month after Season Two, when Brian, who has been trying to navigate through the loss of his great love, is angry and frustrated over his break up with David; which is negatively affecting all aspects of his personal and professional life. And though Brian professes he wants to let go of Jason and move on, his friends question whether that's really true.
Brian (Kevin Spirtas) projects the visage of late husband Jason (Mitchell Anderson) into his day-to-day life; but when his grief sparks angry outbursts in his personal life and at the office, he seeks counseling from Dr. Evelyn Meyer (Linda Purl).
Lisa (Cady Huffman) continues celebrating Jason's birthday two and a half years after his death, and Brian feels guilty for dreading the event, leading him to work out his guilt with Dr. Meyers.
Brian grapples with complicated feelings about Jason's decision to forego treatment before his death, admitting to Dr. Meyer that he feels obligated to defend Jason's decision to their friends, but in private feels betrayed.
Brian expertly guides p.r. for Stefan's (Christopher J. Hanke) new book, a roman a clef about his secret affair with Jason; Stefan insists it is a work of fiction in a television interview with Moira Michael (Julie Halston), while Brian wonders if he should reveal that he knew about the affair all along.
Brian refuses to endure Lisa's cabaret show honoring Jason's memory, and with Dr. Meyer's help confronts their simmering resentment during Jason's illness and death - feelings that still linger.
Brian determines he must remember Jason as a person rather than a model of perfection, prompting a confession to Stefan, and a willingness to let the truth of Stefan and Jason's affair become public.
Brian and employee Luca (Wyatt Fenner) come close to spending the night together, and Brian contemplates selling the apartment he and Jason shared, hoping to build a new life without being surrounded by memories.
As Brian dismantles the home he shared with Jason, he confronts the failure of his subsequent relationship with David (Mike McGowan), and in an emotional session with Dr. Meyer, finds the courage to finally let go of Jason.
