Rick Boswell is an unhappy man who lives in a suburban home with his wife of ten years, Ronnie, their two young sons and his lazy brother, and works at a small ad agency.

In the opener, Rick bemoans the fact that he and Ronnie haven't had sex in weeks to anyone who'll listen. Later, while dining with another couple at a school function, Ronnie gets angry when Rick hits it off with another woman.

Rather than going to play softball, Rick grudgingly goes along when the family is invited to a children's birthday party. Rick winds up in a game of basketball with the other fathers and he repeatedly gets fouled by the obnixious host (Christopher Rich). So Rick responds in a civilized manner -- by punching the guy... As a result, he's branded the ""town psycho.""

Rick reluctantly joins Ronnie for a visit to a therapist, who assigns them to work on communication and intimacy - without sex.

Rick misleads the thrice-divorced Bernie (Fred Applegate) when he arranges a second encounter between Bernie and Ronnie's enamored friend Christine. (from TV Guide)
