An alcoholic pub landlord has visions of a 17th-century doctor of the occult, beginning a monumental clash between good and evil. Adapted from the novel by Kingsley Amis.
Maurice Allington, landlord of The Green Man, celebrates his 53rd birthday and meets the ghost of Dr Thomas Underhill.
Preceding his own father's funeral, Maurice attempts to exhume Underhill, who is not finished with him yet.
Underhill agrees to a second meeting, at which Maurice presumes the evil doctor will reveal his full powers.
