A mysterious call from a dying stranger upends Katie Bonner's life and sends her down a dangerous rabbit hole in search of a woman named Tala.
Katie Bonner lives an unexceptional life. Married to a successful attorney, she cares for their newborn, and quietly exists in her Manhattan penthouse. One night Katie receives a call from an unknown number. On the other line a distressed man fights for his survival as gunshots and explosions echo in the background. In his final moments the caller pleads for the life of his pregnant and wounded wife, Tala. Deeply affected, Katie embarks on a journey to find her. Soon the mystery of the unknown caller and search for Tala threaten to cost Katie everything.
One uneventful night, Katie gets a call from an unknown number. On the line a man named Zuhair pleads for her to help his pregnant wife, Tala, as gunshots ring out. What she hears changes her forever, and the search for Tala begins.
Katie becomes obsessed with finding Tala and separates from husband Bradley, who believes the call was just a scam. But Katie has woken up from her privileged life and she’s not stopping, especially not after hearing what her P.I. found.
Katie’s search takes an unexpected turn when she meets a Sierra Leonean man who reveals information that confirms she’s on the right track. Back home, Katie’s personal life is spiraling too, as everyone she loves side against her.
Now embroiled in a custody battle, Katie forges on with her mission only to find her P.I. backing out. Still no closer to finding Tala and faced with losing everything in her life, Katie must make an important decision about her search.
Just when Katie starts returning to her old life, another phone call sends her back to searching for Tala. As she gets closer to the truth, physical, mental, and emotional threats begin to emerge around her, bringing danger straight to her doorstep.
Katie has agreed to give up her search for Tala and make amends with Bradley for their daughter. But after a wellness retreat, where she notices something strange in the sky, she receives another phone call that changes everything.
After the chaotic call, Katie resumes her search and sets out to find Buja again. After investigating a potential 419 scam call center, Katie is confronted by a man and a drone. Meanwhile, Bradley decides to run for office.
Katie learns that on the night of the first phone call, an APB was put out for her and Bradley’s arrest. Katie pleads with Dean to help her find Buja and he gives her the contact information for a mysterious fixer named RAM.
RAM’s associates give Katie information about an Ebola vaccine, then warn her to stop. While searching for the address where she and Bradley were taken the night of the call, she runs into a man who gives her a more ominous warning.
As her search ramps up, Katie’s tough side starts to surface and empowers her to stand up to Bradley’s father. Katie finally meets RAM in the back of a deli, where RAM gives her an address. Could it lead Katie to Tala?
When Katie’s visit to Buja leaves her no closer to the truth, she returns to her mom’s house ready to put the search for Tala behind her for good. But the appearance of a surprise visitor will shatter any chance of returning to normal life.
Katie finally comes face-to-face with the woman she's destined to meet as they go on the run to reveal the truth about Angelware for the world to see. With no dark corners left to hide in, everyone has no choice but to reveal who they really are.
Katie and T find help in unexpected places as questions arise about T’s identity—threatening everything. Meanwhile, media attention is drawn to Katie’s whereabouts, sending those closest to her into a frenzy.
