Set in Switzerland County Indiana in the 1820's. "Tales from the Tavern" is a selection of true stories based on the recollections of Perret Dufour and letters from Jacob Weaver.
The year is 1828 and President John Quincy Adams is running against General Andrew Jackson. Who has your vote? Join the denizens of the Eagle Tavern as they wrestle with this question. These stories are true. Welcome to the Eagle Tavern.
Switzerland County Indiana is under attack. The boys of the Eagle Tavern only have one option. They must hunt down their oppressors and massacre them. No mercy is given as they plan to gather the scalps of their enemies. Plus, a romantic stroll at a husking bee draws Frederick and some of the boys into fisticuffs on the Kentucky side of the Ohio.
Militia Training Day is here. The Eagle Tavern boys are ready to defend the honor of the Republic. Grab a glass of "O be Joyful" and join us as we celebrate the bulwark of this nation's liberty; the American Citizen Soldier.
Caleb Mounts is running for office. In the time-honored Switzerland County tradition, Caleb is supplying "free ardent" for all his supporters. Plus, Caleb has hired Wm. French for some sartorial splendor. The boys of the Eagle Tavern are back. Sample the "free ardent" being dispensed by the candidate of your choice. It's the Switzerland County way, after all.
The Eagle Tavern boys have a bad case of cabin fever. To warm things up they mix up a brew of new clothes, some erudite Latin phraseology, steam boating, the rosy cheeked beauty Miss Marguerite and top it off with the answer to the age-old question: can pigs fly. The result is a beverage even a liberal serving of the "ardent" can't surpass.
Can you really make money while you sleep? Which is more valuable: hard work, common sense or dreams? And just who is that cigar smoking stranger? You'll get these answers and more by " Winning the Lottery".
The Mississippi River leads to New Orleans and fortune. Or does it? The boys take the risk to make some cash. But what will they give up in the process? We're "Flatboating to New Orleans" where someone may be keeping permanent company with the catfish.
With the boys getting ready for their flat boat trip to New Orleans, something's not right at the Eagle Tavern. Serious problems lie ahead. Deep thinking is needed to solve it. The return of the Shakespeare spouting Steamboat Captain Amos Beacon might be the solution. But, to quote Himself "I doubt it."
What flows down the Ohio should remain downriver. Sometimes things wash up on shore. They are quickly set adrift. As the boys get ready to take their flatboat to New Orleans, discordant notes disrupt their harmony. The time has come for all of them to look in the mirror.
The Ohio River is running fast. Dozens of flatboats are floating to New Orleans and anticipated profit. The boys are among them. Who of all assembled is brave enough to make the voyage? For, like the river, the course true love never runs true. Dangers lie ahead.
A comet is hurtling to earth. Criminals are running amok and, the extinguishing of all life is imminent. Yes, it's another typical day in the sleepy "Hamlet" of Vevay, IN. The boys contemplate their impending doom with stoicism, a little bit of humor, and plenty of ardent.
Trouble is brewing in Vevay between two companies of local militia.. The infantry and artillery are forming battle lines over which is the superior method of warfare. As the slow match ignites the powder momentous news arrives.
Before Tolkien dreamt of Middle Earth, there was once a place called Hollow Earth. It was quite the topic of debate in the 1820's. War of 1812 hero Captain John Cleves Symmes, believed the earth was composed of five concentric spheres. He stops by the Eagle Tavern trying to recruit the boys to join him on his voyage of discovery.
Hero of our Revolution, the Marquis de Lafayette is touring America. Captain Dufour and his Helvetian Artillery are drilling nonstop getting ready for his Cincinnati visit. The Eagle Tavern boys are along for the libations and the laughs.
