Joey and Michael, who fought over the same woman 13 years ago now have, upon her death, been awarded joint custody of her daughter - who might be either of theirs. So how do the men settle their problems? With a paternity test? No way. Instead, they all move in together to raise Nicole as a two-dad nuclear family. Under the watchful eye of the family court judge, dads and daughter adjust to their new situation.
In the pilot, two buddies who were once in love with the same woman reunite at the reading of the woman's will, where they learn that one of them -- but not which one -- fathered her 12-year-old daughter and that both are to share custody of the girl.
Michael insists the family move to his uptown apartment, which has no playmates for Nicole and no life as Joey knows it.
Nicole goes to the movies with a friend---and ends up in New Jersey.
Joey's lecture before Nicole's first date fails to cover what to do when the suitor fails to show up.

Only problem is that they don't know any of her friends and family and if she has any. So they do a little snooping around and find some of her things that were hidden and in it is a picture of her and someone named Louis and they thought he was a friend so they invite him. Only thing he came under the assumption that they told her that he was and when they meet, Judge Wilbur's not happy to see him. They (Joey, Michael, and Nicole) learn that he's her ex-husband. It seems that years ago she thought her career was more important, so they went their separate ways. They arrange for her and Louis to be alone together, and they make peace.
Nicole learns she's not considered part of the in crowd and considers extreme measures to change her status. Joey's girlfriend won't accept their breakup so he makes up a new romance.
Nicole enters a Rock TV music channel contest in which Nicole wins and gets to go on a musical dream date of her choice... and her dads get to live out their own fantasies in the process. Michael playing the piano live in front of a national TV audience, and Joey playing basketball.. with Dr. J? In the series grand finale, Joey's girlfriend Sarah wants to get married.. with another guy. Joey stops the wedding and gets back together with Sarah, and is faced with a tough choice. Move to San Francisco, or stay with Nicole in New York.
