Based on real events, this dramatic mini-series follows the experiences of the fictional Alvaro family who are a part of a Canadian community during World War Two that attempts to come to terms with events over which they have no control.
As the storm clouds of World War II form, Canada seems to be a center of calm. However, Fascism's influence extends worldwide, and when Italy ends up joining the Axis Powers, differing ideologies cleave families and communities a part.
After members of the Alvaro family are arrested with those considered a risk to society, Sara discovers the startling cause of their imprisonment. What will become of the Alvaro family? Will they be able to piece their lives back together?
