Eleven Islands in the Zamboanga Peninsula may seem like a paradise with its lush forests, white sand beaches, and blue ocean. But this paradise has become a picture of poverty as the lack of potable water, electricity, food, and schools are a calvary for the people who live here. Meet Sarfaina and her family and learn about their lives in a paradise with few services.
In the small island of Rapu Rapu, Albay, also known as San Ramon, fishing is the main source of livelihood. Most divers and fishermen spend up to ten hours catching a fish. Kara David presents the story of people who have painted their dreams on the ocean they sail. These fishermen do not care about the hardships and dangers they will face just to make ends meet. In addition, they live almost entirely in the sea, just to catch enough fish.
In 1989, Jessica Soho first set foot on Pag-asa Island, located in the middle of the disputed Spratly Islands. Ten years later, she returned to the island, where she saw buildings that China had constructed around it.
Jessica Soho visited a poor community called 'Isla Maliit' and 'Isla Malaki' located near Manila Bay. Here, she discovered that most of the residents, because of poverty, sell their kidneys for a living.
