The Macahans, a family from Virginia headed by Zeb Macahan, travel across the country to pioneer a new land and a new home in the American West.
Zeb Macahan return to the family farm to take the family to Oregon. The civil war is about to start and family want to travel west to Oregon to their sons should not be summoned. Uncle Zeb agrees to lead the family on the perilous journey, but civil war may be more important for the family than they ever could have imagined.
A conflict flare up since representatives from the Russian court chasing lots of buffalo on the Indians' territory. Zeb takes on the task of mediating between the Sioux Indians and the army. While Molly Culhane arrives into town to take care of the children.
Zeb join the Sioux indians after one of the Russians had been killed in battle because of a breach of the Treaty. Mormon polygamists and Jeremiah Taylor suitors for Laura, who accepts.
Luke is captured by a highwayman robber line composed of former soldiers in the Confederate Army. Zeb carrying Satangkais Sioux chief's body to General Sheridan after the governor had sacrificed their lives in the struggle for his people.

Molly and Jessie dilegens fail when they are on their way home, and a shocked Jessie goes out on the desert wandering. After that has been rescued by Josh and Laura takes Molly using Deek to find Jessie. Zab and Luke is unaware that Tap has it together with a gang of bandits and let him join as a cook on their journey to the Indian Reservation. Jessie found the Navajo Indian Teel-M. Doreen tells of Francis and Stillman for Zeb, and Josh is attacked by Stillman and his men. Molly has been busy defending itself against Deek.
Luke rescues Judge Rensen from a band of Indians, and the judge promises to do all he can to assist Luke in getting a full pardon.

Otter Belt threatens to expose Taps affiliated with robber rabble of Zeb, which ends with the Tap kill him. Deek bribing a land manager to get over Macahan land and gold in their river bend. Josh comes to Las Mesas to help Luke, but fall in love with Doreen in the coup. Stillman uses Francis, Dore Head, to get Luke doomed. Tap tell her dark secret of Zeb and end up in a bloody gun duel.
Mountain man Zeb Macahan continue to lead the clan in the task of taming the new frontier, with Molly Culhane by his side. Fugitive deserter Luke sees a change in fortune, while Josh undergoes some arduous rites of passage. It's a peril well understood by sisters Laura and Jessie, who learn that falling for the "bad boy" may be a fatal mistake.
Rancher Henry Coe hires a professional gunman to drive the Macahans off what he considers to be his property. Frank Grayson ingratiates himself with the Macahans, but Josh recognizes him as the gunman once hired to kill Luke.
Jessie is blindly in love with a handsome young stranger named Bob, who rescues her from a nasty villain. Together they flee to a small town and finds a priest who agrees to perform the ceremony.
A by-the-book Army lieutenant clashes with the Macahans when he hunts for an Indian chief suspected of raiding wagon trains.
Luke embarks on a double mission: to win back his old flame Hillary and find the man who is suspected of murder as Luke once accused of - and to get him to confess.
