Mendosa, the chief adviser of the king of Valiante, begins a campaign to hunt down "witches," resulting in the deaths of many magical knights and their sorcerer assistants. Anna, a sorceress married to the knight Herman Lewis, gives birth to a son before her execution. Herman takes their child, Leon, and flees, raising him to be the heir of the legendary Golden Armor. By the time Leon grows up, Valiante is completely in the control of Mendosa, who drives out Prince Alfonso and his mother. Alphonso decides to seek out the man who inherited the Golden Armor to reclaim the throne and save his people.
Ema visits her friend Tina at the orphanage set up by their foster mother Natoria to care for children whose parents were killed by Horrors. While singing, they spin yarn, but Tina also spins the special thread used by Alchemists like Ema on a Madou spinning wheel. Tina meets their teacher Tobias who doesn't trust strangers and Ema suspects that Tina is attracted to him. When Ema takes the Madou spinning wheel away to avoid it attracting Horrors, Tobias' knife exploits his hatred of strangers and prompts him to kill two rogues who are planning to kidnap an orphan. This act causes Tobias to become a Horror and he pursues Ema so she is forced to kill him using Natoria's magic thread.

After Mendoza's apparent defeat at the hands of Prince Alfonso, Leon is left humiliated and confused. Abandoned by both his golden armor and his womanizing father, Leon wanders alone looking for purpose and a reason to keep fighting. Meanwhile, Prince Alfonoso struggles to keep up with the daunting dual responsibilities of running a kingdom and keeping Horrors at bay as the chosen Knight of Light. When the two boys finally meet again, will they be able to see the other's struggles and set aside the past in order to work together? Germán appears before León and the others once again, telling them to stop their search. León learns why the Watchdog Center has decided to help Mendoza. Valiante must be sacrificed for the better good. Still, he raises his blade and fights.
Jiruba tells León about Germán's true goal of destroying Anima before it completely revives. As León and the others push their way down to Mendoza's lair, Germán holds off the masses of Horrors that try to close up the path he worked so hard to open.
Everyone fights for their own reasons and wishes. Now allies and enemies throw themselves against one another in battle. Anima's revival must be stopped and Garm must be held at bay. Everything looks grim and doom is upon them, but still they fight.
What is immortality? What is eternity? Now, as one who protects, León must fight Anima and Mendoza to protect the people of Santa Bard. He no longer fights alone, but with all the hopes and desires of the Makai Knights and Alchemists before him.
