A Comedy Roast is a British comedy television show broadcast by Channel 4. After a series of failed attempts by various broadcasters over the years, it is the first adaptation of the American comedy institution of roasting to be produced as a television show in Britain. The first series premiered on 7 April 2010. Hosted by Jimmy Carr it saw Bruce Forsyth, Sharon Osbourne and Chris Tarrant get roasted by various colleagues, comedians and celebrities. The show returned on 15 October 2010 targeting Davina McCall.
Legendary light-entertainment host and catchphrase king Bruce Forsyth steps forward to receive his roasting, with Jimmy Carr looking after proceedings. Forsyth has been in the entertainment business for 68 years, so there's a wealth of biographical material to feed the jokes - and a queue of celebrities just itching to take a shot at the TV veteran. His roasters include Jonathan Ross, Jack Dee, Jason Manford, Jon Culshaw, Sean Lock, Barry Cryer, and his wife, Wilnelia.
Sharon Osbourne is famous for her outrageous family, her Hollywood lifestyle and her acid-tongue and honest opinions - all of which make her the perfect roast victim. But can she handle being in the firing line for a change? Jimmy Carr hosts the proceedings as roasters Jack Dee, Sean Lock, Paddy McGuinness, Sally James, Jimmy Carr and special guest Sir Terry Wogan provide outrageously mischievous 'tributes' to their target roastee, Chris Tarrant. Taking a break from his day job of making millionaires and entertaining the British public over the airwaves, Chris Tarrant steps up to face the harsh taunts of his fellow celebrities and former colleagues. Tarrant puts a brave face on as his life and career are relentlessly and meticulously picked apart.
The former Big Brother presenter endures a `roasting' experience involving humorous insults and irreverent tributes by her celebrity friends. Host Jimmy Carr welcomes comedians including Rich Hall, Julian Clary and Patrick Kielty, as well as fellow presenters Chris Moyles, Dermot O'Leary and Fearne Cotton. There is also a showing from ex-Big Brother contestants, such as Brian Dowling, Nikki Grahame and Brian Belo.
