Two detectives must contend with dangerous corruption as they investigate the mysterious disappearance of the last honest politician in their dark city. A group of unlikely suspects emerges - each with the last name of Smith.
In the fictional town of Timms Valley, Wisconsin, the lives and livelihoods of its citizens are intertwined with the fate of the town's biggest employer, Timms Industrial Piping. When the company's founder and CEO goes missing in a plane crash, the lives of the characters are turned upside down.

Hey, Guy. Welcome to Ultra City. It's Detective David Mills' first day on the job and things just got heavy. Carpenter K. Smith, the last honest politician in this dark city, went out for a pack of cigarettes ... Gone seven hours since.
Mills and Gail try to piece together the movements of the missing mayoral candidate, employing extraordinarily specific detective work along the way. But will they be too late? Carpenter K. Smith was supposed to make this a gentler place. Yeah, well.
In what sort of city does its mayor openly conspire with a major crime lord and a police captain at the feet of strippers? Gail faces a demotion, Trish's secret goes public, and Mills brings his new partner to the crime scene to search for hot clues.
Mills and Nico start to connect the dots. Gail tries to reach her son who is quickly slipping away. Congressman Chris Pecker gives a lesson in the history of artistic nudes. That's right. And Street Hustler Boy, well ... He's risking it all for love.
Dire circumstances bring both Mills and Gail to the hospital. Little Grace learns of the damage she's caused. Meanwhile, a devastating shift of allegiance may derail Donella's campaign just as it's gaining traction. And Ultra City, does she care?
