Set in the late 1950’s, The Larkins follows the golden-hearted wheeler dealer Pop Larkin and his wife Ma, together with their six children, including the beautiful Mariette, as they bask in their idyllic and beautiful patch of paradise in Kent.
The Larkins prepare for Christmas and are overjoyed to have Mariette and Charley back, but when Charley's parents arrive, chaos descends on the Larkins' farm.
There is excitement at the approaching May Day Fair, but Mariette drops a bombshell and the tax man comes calling.
With their wit, charm and a little bit of cunning, the Larkins woo Charley the Tax Man. Mariette agrees to put her plans on hold and stay for the summer.
Ma is worried that Pop is working too hard and books a weekend in Margate, leaving Charley and Mariette to mind the kids. Margate, however, threatens to be a let-down.
News reaches Pop that the train station is to close. With the help of Miss Chand and the villagers, Pop seizes the opportunity to save the railway and make money along the way.
The Larkins have visitors they would rather avoid. There is tension between Mariette and Charley, Alec Norman is up to his old dirty tricks and the truth about Tom Fisher’s plans emerge. Can Primrose save the day, and where has Mariette disappeared to?
The Larkins dash to the railway station and manage to stall Mariette's departure to France. They convince her to stay for a donkey derby/gymkhana and cocktail party in a few days.
Charley's parents come to visit the Larkins, but a quiet and respectful dinner plan goes awry when the village suffers a power cut.
Pop accepts a lucrative offer that he can't refuse, and the Larkins' new neighbours host a hilariously dire dinner party.
It's BBQ weather, and no-one throws a party like the Larkins - everyone is welcome, including the dubious Jerebohms, but a trap is set for Pop...
Ma issues Pop some tough love while playing Cupid between Primrose and the Reverend Candy, and an old friend of Pop's arrives in the village.
Ma and the children try to convince Pop to take the court case seriously, but he has fun on his mind and is conducting his own defence...
The Larkins do all they can to get Pop out of prison - to keep his spirits up, Mariette tells him something that he is sworn to secrecy about...
When Norma confesses to Ma that Pop was set up by the Jerebohms, Ma gets some help to organise her own sting operation... and get some revenge.
