A force known as Astral power is wielded by astral mages. Fearing its destructive power, the "Empire" persecutes those who show their abilities. The tormented mages then founded the Nebulis Sovereignty to flee from their oppressors. Since then, the two nations have been in bitter conflict, the war still going strong for more than a century. After committing the great crime of freeing an imprisoned witch, the talented knight Iska is sentenced to prison. A year later, the Empire leadership suddenly decides to set him free, with the condition that he hunts down a fearsome mage known as the "Ice Calamity Witch." Hoping to end the war, Iska agrees. Coincidentally, the Ice Calamity Witch herself, Aliceliese "Alice" Lou Nebulis XI, also wishes for peace and is willing to do everything she can to bring down the Empire. As Iska and Alice both yearn for a crusade that will turn the world into one without struggle, woe, or pain, the strings of fate tie them ever closer together.
Two nations, the Empire and the Nebulis Sovereignty, have been at war for 100 years. Imprisoned for freeing a witch, Iska is given a chance at freedom. In exchange, he must take down a powerful astral mage known as the "Ice Calamity Witch."
After their brief but fateful encounter, Iska and Alice made an impression on each other, resulting in some sleepless nights. Despite being on the opposing sides of the war, they soon learn that they have much more in common than they thought.
Iska is given a new mission to apprehend the Ice Calamity Witch. By accomplishing the mission, Iska will be a step closer to realizing his dream for a peace treaty. When Iska and Alice meet again, they weren't prepared for what was coming for them.
100 years ago, a drift of astral energy created a vortex which cursed, or gifted, people with astral power. Now another vortex has formed, triggering a race between the Empire and the Nebulis Sovereignty to acquire it.
The members of Unit N07 successfully locate the vortex, but the Sovereignty had already found it. After Mismis is captured, Iska must fight against Kissing, a purebred, to get her back before the Empire attacks the Sovereignty base.
Iska and Mismis survive the eruption of the vortex, but the team doesn't escape unscathed. Meanwhile, Alice decides to go search for Iska in Ein again. They are reunited by fate, but everything is jeopardized when Rin makes a big miscalculation.
Alice is forced to kidnap Iska. Afraid of what will happen to him if word gets out, Alice orders Rin to take them to the Prison Sector to decide their next move. Meanwhile, the members of Unit N07 infiltrate the Sovereignty to get Iska back.
With Risya's help, the Transcendent Demon, Salinger, has escaped from his 30-year imprisonment inside Ollelugan Prison Tower. His unique astral spirit makes him incredibly dangerous to any astral mages, but Alice and Rin must step up and try to stop him.
Iska arrives just in time and battles Salinger, who not only wields multiple astral spirits, but can also combine two contradicting elements together to make his astral art even stronger. Can Iska measure up to him and defeat him?
Unit N07 gets a lucky break; they're given a forced leave of absence for 60 days. They decide to visit a tropical resort to camouflage their attempt to figure out a game plan for Mismis' astral crest. However, fate has something else in store for them.
After their fateful encounter, Sisbell visits Iska at the hotel and asks for his help, ironically offering a similar deal as her sister Alice once did. However, before they can discuss the matter in great lengths, Sisbell is targeted by one of her own.
The Empire's experimental weapon, Object, goes after Sisbell. It also detects Mismis' astral energy. Iska and his team must fight Object to save Sisbell and to stop it from uncovering Mismis' secret. However, it seems Object has gone through an upgrade.
Over a century ago, astral mages under persecution from the Empire banded together and established the Nebulis Sovereignty under three founding families: Lou, Hydra, and Zoa. With the leadership of Millavair Lou Nebulis VIII, the Sovereignty aims to minimize casualties in their conflict with the Empire—a stance the extremist Zoas disagree with. Tensions rise between the families as the upcoming election to decide the next leader approaches. The Zoas are willing to do anything to achieve success; however, a world-ending war may ensue should they be victorious. Princess Aliceliese "Alice" Lou Nebulis XI has no choice but to cooperate with any potential allies in order to advance towards her ultimate goal of ending the conflict that has long tormented everyone involved. This includes Iska—one of the Empire's greatest warriors and her greatest rival.
Joining forces with Alice, Iska and his team quash the Empire and the Sovereignty's conspiracy and successfully protect Sisbell. After the ordeal, they travel to Alsamira to enjoy their vacation. However, Sisbell has not returned to the palace yet, and asks Unit N07 on vacation to escort her back, offering something they can’t refuse. Meanwhile, Alice gets a gut feeling that Sisbell's new bodyguard might be Iska...
Iska and Alice suddenly meet again at the Riesbaden station. Alice then learns that he is the bodyguard for her sister Sisbell. Meanwhile, a major incident occurs in the central province.
The suspect who attempted the assassination may target Sisbell next, since she hosts an astral spirit with the ability to reenact the past and identify the suspect. Unit N07 goes on high alert and is left with no other option but to hide at a hotel and wait for an audience with Mirabella. However, a large explosion occurs near the hotel. When Sisbell tries to reenact what really happened, someone with the same "shadow" from the reenactment starts to attack her.
Alice is back in the central province and reports to her mother about Sisbell's whereabouts. Sisbell herself also returns to the central province a short time later. However, upon her arrival, there is a surprising encounter.
Invited by Elletear, Iska and his team visit the Erz palace, a vacation house owned by the House of Lou. Wary of her sister, Sisbell brings Iska along to sweep the palace for bugs. Iska is very nervous when she decides to sweep Alice’s bedroom as well. Meanwhile, Alice hurries her way to the Erz palace to stop Sisbell from discovering her forbidden secret. When the three princesses come together, Iska may find himself between a rock and a hard place...!
With news of the attack, Alice returns to the Queen's palace. Later they are attacked by an unknown enemy.
Iska must fight Talisman, who can manipulate invisible waves. Dubbed as “the Vicious Tyrant,” Talisman’s powerful attack is difficult to overcome, even with Iska’s mobility. Jhin and the others take Sisbell with them but are also finding it difficult to shake the Midnight Sun Witch, Grugell, who’s on their tail. Meanwhile, a fierce battle between the Saint Disciples and purebreds is about to start.

Alice’s hatred towards the Empire grows stronger after their recent attack, when Iska, in pursuit of Vichyssoise, appears in front of her. They can no longer maintain their easy relationship as a friendly rival. With ruthless determination, Alice declares war on Iska, regarding him as an Imperial swordsman, hostile towards the Sovereignty. Meanwhile, a man watches their battle and sighs... Salinger the sorcerer had also followed a similar fate as the two.
Everything is going according to plan for the House of Hydra, and the assassins are on the lookout in the city. Iska and his team are brought to the safe house by the servants of the House of Lou, and they promise to rescue Sisbell. Meanwhile, Mirabella finally awakens while Alice was pressed with the enormous aftermath of the events as the acting queen. Alice reveals to Mirabella that there is another mastermind besides the House of Hydra.
