They say art is the mark of a civilised society, but what do Australians really think about it? Each week, a cross-section of Australians will become art critics as they delve deeper into some of the most renowned works in the country.
A group of everyday Australians become art critics as they explore the works of the National Gallery of Victoria's Australian Collection housed in the Ian Potter Centre.
The critics have their first of two trips to the Art Gallery of New South Wales (AGNSW) in Sydney to view works by artists Edouard Detaille, Charles Meere, Uta Uta Tjangala, Geraldine Javier and Brett Whiteley.
This week the critics visit the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), Melbourne. Founded in 1861, the NGV is the oldest and most visited gallery in Australia.
