1 Nephi 1–2 | The Lord directs Lehi to flee Jerusalem with his wife, Sariah, and his four sons—Laman, Lemuel, Sam, and Nephi.
1 Nephi 3–5 | Lehi sends his sons to Jerusalem to obtain sacred records. They miraculously succeed despite challenges and internal conflict.
1 Nephi 7 | Ishmael's family joins Lehi's sons. Laman and Lemuel bind Nephi, whose faith saves him. All is forgiven, and the journey continues.
1 Nephi 8 | Lehi has a vision filled with symbolism. Central to his vision is the tree of life and the eating of its fruit.

1 Nephi 16 | The families of Lehi and Ishmael continue their journey through the wilderness and are guided by the Lord in faith.

2 Nephi 31–32 | Nephi teaches his people about baptism and the doctrine of Christ. He explains that they must press forward in following Christ, with perfect hope in Him; love God and all people; and feast upon the words of Christ.
2 Nephi 33 | The scriptures contain the words of Christ and teach us to do good. If we truly believe in Christ, we will believe the scriptures’ words.
Jacob 2–3 | Jacob warns the people about their pride and asks them to seek the kingdom of God. He calls those men to repentance who have broken the hearts of their wives and children because of their infidelity.
Jacob 7 | Sherem preaches against the doctrine of Christ and demands a sign. He is smitten by the power of God and dies after confessing his sins to the people.
Enos 1 | Enos prays mightily to God and is forgiven of his sins. He also prays for his brethren the Nephites, then for the Lamanites. Finally he asks the Lord to protect the records of his people.
Mosiah 1–5 | King Benjamin gathers his people at the temple in Zarahemla. They learn that when they serve one another, they are serving God. King Benjamin makes his son Mosiah the new king.
Mosiah 11–18 | The prophet Abinadi rebukes King Noah and his priests for their wickedness. Abinadi teaches the Ten Commandments and prophesies that the Lord will come to earth to redeem His people.
Mosiah 27; Alma 36 | Alma the Younger and the sons of Mosiah persecute God’s people and try to destroy the Church. But they repent after an angel of God appears to them and tells them to stop.
Alma 4–7 | Alma the Younger asks Nephihah to be the chief judge so Alma can teach the people to let go of their pride. Alma teaches the people to have faith in Jesus Christ, to repent, and to be baptized.
Alma 8–15 | Alma the Younger and Amulek preach in Ammonihah and are put into prison. God causes the prison walls to tumble to the ground and they escape.
Alma 17–19 | Ammon and the sons of Mosiah go to teach the Lamanites the word of God. Ammon becomes King Lamoni’s servant and teaches him the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Alma 31–34 | The Zoramites look down on the poor and won’t let them into their synagogue. Alma and Amulek teach the poor humility and faith in Jesus Christ.

Mormon 8–9; Moroni 1, 10; Title Page | Moroni finishes writing about the Nephites’ destruction and buries the sacred record so that the purposes of the Lord can be fulfilled. Everyone can know the truth of the book through the Holy Ghost.

Jacob tells of a man and his vineyard. The man plants wild and tame olive tree branches and clears branches that produced wild fruit, leaving only good fruit behind.
The people of Limhi and Alma are taken into bondage and captivity by the Lamanites. Through growing faith and making covenants, the Lord delivers them from their bondage.
The people of Ammon promise God to never shed blood again and bury their weapons of war. Because of their full conversion and faith, they are blessed.
Captain Moroni inspires the Nephites to keep their commandments and fight for their freedom by raising the Title of Liberty.
The people of Ammon made a covenant to not shed blood, so their sons, who did not make the covenant, agree to join Helaman to fight and defend their people. Through their faith in their mother’s teaching of the Lord, they are all protected and live.
Nephi and Lehi are taken captive by the Lamanites because of their teachings of the Lord. When the Lamanites try to slay them, the Lord protects them with a ring of fire, and angels come down from the heavens. The Lamanite's hearts are changed.
Samuel the Lamanite prophesies of the coming of Christ, angering the Nephites. When the Nephites shoot arrows and throw stones at Samuel, he is protected by the Lord and every arrow and stone misses him.
