A man who works for the tax authorities ends up becoming friends with a dangerous criminal after their daughters become best friends and he accidentally saves his life
Marius, an ex-con mobster with money problems, and high-ranking tax official Hugo become acquainted, as their daughters are best friends.
At a parents' evening, ambitious tax official Hugo meets Marius, a mobster who's just been released from prison.
Marius finds out that he has a massive tax debt on top of his other money worries. Hugo tries to stop Suus spending time with Chrissie after he saves Marius's life during a shooting.
Marius meets up with Abdu to find out if Wally was behind the attack. Meanwhile, Hugo organises a meeting between his daughters and his girlfriend Hannah, but Laura is hostile.
Hugo doesn't know how to refuse Marius's request for help, and his anxiety gets worse when he goes on Suus's school camping trip only to find Marius and Kitty in attendance.
When Marius finds the missing Suus, Hugo is so grateful that he agrees to help Marius sort out his taxation problems, even though he is still worried about becoming involved.
Hugo insists that Marius go into hiding while he looks at his financial problems. Meanwhile, the police are taking an interest in the odd friendship between a tax official and an ex-con.
Under pressure from Wally, Abdu forces Kitty to reveal Marius's hiding place. Hugo and Kitty try to locate Van Galen's attorney as he might have a lead on the lost money.
Marius escapes with barely a scratch on him to the home of Kitty's parents. Kitty gives valuable information to Hugo, and the police interrogate Hugo again asking why he has files on Van Galen.
Abdu is apparently willing when Marius asks him to help find another hiding place. Hugo, who is hot on the money trail, freaks out when he realises the police have been tapping phones.
Hugo is desperate to bring his dangerous venture with Marius to an end after the money is found, but the situation comes to a dramatic head at Suus's ninth birthday party.
Hugo and Marius agree to sever their relationship and after a year, they have managed to successfully move on with their lives. But no secret stays buried forever.
After disposing of the body, Hugo and Marius have gone their separate ways. Marius has a new business and Kitty has opened a restaurant. All seems well but have they really left the past behind?
Ron has cottoned on to Marius and is demanding a hefty sum to stay silent. Hugo is desperate to convince Laura of Wout's unsuitability for her and confides as much to Kitty.
Hugo is left reeling when he finds out that Wout is in a coma and then the police arrive at his door, while Marius is growing increasingly paranoid
Things turn serious for Marius when he tries to confront Ron. Wout, who has woken from his coma, has flashbacks of the attack.
With Marius's life and Hugo's job on the line, extreme measures are called for, but the police are tightening the noose around them.
Hugo and Marius become embroiled in the police investigation, a situation which has Kitty feeling increasingly desperate. And Wout is hungry for revenge.
Ron visits Marius to put more pressure on him for the money. With his back to the wall, Marius calls upon Kitty to get him the number for a hitman.
Marius is out of jail but Hugo, betrayed by his daughter, is under investigation. They decide that it is time to make a final attempt to break free of Ron's control, but then a body is found...
Hugo's lies catch up with him as both his daughter and Sophie corner him with questions he can't answer. Meanwhile, Marius once again requires Hugo's help.
Hugo's lack of criminal expertise and experience leads to complications with Ron and everything seems to be leading to a bloody finale. Who will win and who will lose?
