Based on a true story, the drama tells the tragic love story of Kim Woo Jin, a married stage drama writer, and Yun Shim Duk, Korea's first professional soprano, who meet while studying at Tokyo University in the 1920s. Yun Shim Duk's recording of "Death Song" became the first Korean pop song in 1926.
During the Japanese colonial period, married playwright Kim U-jin falls in love with soprano Yun Sim-deok, one of Korea’s notable New Women.
While planning to stage new Korean plays in Joseon, Kim U-jin meets music student Yun Sim-deok, who wonders why he'd risk doing so under Japanese rule.
Sim-deok wants to know about U-jin’s dream and decides to go with the theater troupe to visit his family home in Mokpo, where a surprise awaits her.
U-jin's family finds he hasn’t come home. Sim-deok gets a recording contract and U-jin resolves to live for his writing -- and for the woman he loves.
