Six very different people - Marta, Roberta, Fiorenza, Paola, Lucia and Romeo - work together in an elegant fashion boutique in the centre of Rome. They are all in thrall to the demands of their overbearing manager, Francesca. Each character knows that between the dramas of their own lives, the journeys to and from work, the children to care for, husbands, lovers, and parents, they will find solidarity with their fellow shop workers.
In one of the stores of the Jack Norton chain there are serious problems because the turnover does not satisfy the owners. But before closing it, a new manager is sent and manages to reset the fate of the activity. But that is not enough and the central management decides to put an end to the initiative. Marta, Roberta, Fiorenza, Lucia, Paola decide at that point to take over the business by calling it Les Girls.
Marta is married to Giancarlo, an unemployed surveyor, and is the mother of a child with Down syndrome. Hers is a difficult life, made up of sacrifices and disappointments: she tries in every way not to lose heart, even if, having become pregnant for the second time, she will seriously consider having an abortion.
Roberta is used to long periods of loneliness. She has long been in a relationship with Luca, the former director of the boutique. However, when the latter, sick and about to undergo an operation, decides to return to his wife, Roberta tries to be close to him anyway and in doing so she meets Marco, a young surgeon.
Fiorenza is a single young woman, extremely clumsy and insecure. She lives, dissatisfied, still with her parents, and the monotony of a life all home and work only increases her constant nervousness. With the help of her colleagues she will try to change, starting with her relationship with men.
Paola is ambitious and indefatigable: she studies law and to round off, in addition to working as a clerk, she is a baby-sitter, an actress and a cubist. After an evening at the disco she is raped: she will be able to overcome the trauma thanks to Fiorenza's friendship and the love of Riccardo, whom she met in the store.
Romeo is homosexual and lives his love affair with the pastry chef Antonio without complexes. However, the years go by and the desire to become a father is always stronger: so, when he finds an abandoned little girl in a dumpster, he does everything to keep her with him, even if in the end he will decide to let her go back with her mother.
Francesca, the director of the boutique, is an iron woman, but she too hides a terrible pain: her son is a drug addict. In a particularly difficult time, in an attempt to remedy her son's problems, she finds an old flame of his, with whom she re-enters a relationship.
The difficulties continue for Les Girls and the girls are forced to close the shop and dedicate themselves to other jobs. But the creation of a new clothing line pushes them to reopen and challenge the future once again.
The store where Romeo and the other saleswomans work has been devastated by unknown vandals: just when the group is contemplating the havoc, a new member - Elisa - arrives, who enters the Les Girls boutique with a cheerful air. The hard work of the shop is not pleasant, but some difficulties overlook their path, even on the front of friendship.
The salespeople of the Les Girls store are looking for a new job: their searches all lead them to different places, but the group's harmony is not affected. Roberta and Marta face a cyclone that hits their lives and threatens to wipe out everything they've built.
Fiorenza suffers the serious mourning of her mother's death and must try to recover from it despite the deep pain. Meanwhile, a mysterious man approaches Marta to ask her about Roberta.
Not even trusted friends and colleagues can put a stop to the unstoppable chain of love mistakes that Lucia constantly stumbles on. Elisa also lives a life of lies and half-truths to try to fight that guilt that prevents her from letting go of a new relationship.
Fiorenza receives a phone call from the famous Boutique Zeus, who summon her for an interview just as she finds out she is pregnant. Romeo, meanwhile, clumsily tries to hide his relationship in the new religious goods store where he works, passing off Antonio for his brother, while Giancarlo tries to recover his marriage to Marta, who is getting colder and colder towards her husband.
Lucia is unable to deal with her alcohol problem, while Marta discovers that she and Giancarlo owe a large debt to the bank. The loan shark returns to visit Roberta and threatens to harm her father if she does not pay back the amount owed to her, but she will be able to free herself from this burden. Fiorenza announces her imminent wedding and everyone bands together to create a new clothing line and reopen their shop.
